The New York Giants had something brewing last season with their rookie duo. Quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo turned into instant fan favorites, and their headbutt celebration kept going viral.
The way they played was physical and aggressive, the kind of football that gets fans in New York happy.

But that excitement for the Giants fans fell apart on Oct. 26 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Skattebo went down with a brutal injury that stopped the team’s momentum cold. The damage was severe, a dislocated ankle, an open tibia fracture, and a ruptured deltoid ligament.

Skattebo shares promising step in injury recovery
Now, as the Giants try to build through free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft, focus is also on knowing when Skattebo will be back. On Wednesday, the running back gave fans something to feel good about. He joined ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ and talked about where he is with his injury recovery.

“I’m getting better. I ran for the first time today at about 75%, so it’s the bright side of things,” Skattebo said.
Eisen followed up, asking what running at 75% actually looks like and if it’s faster than a jog. Skattebo kept his humor.

“Not very fast, I’ll tell you that. I can get away from, like, a baby hippo, maybe. That’s about it. A little bit over a jog. Kind of just striding out, not exploding yet, and getting into that part of the game, but the jog and the striding.”

He made it clear the injury is the only thing slowing him down at this point, not the rehab itself. Skattebo said he has got about a month left before he is fully back, but he is confident in the timeline.
With OTAs coming up soon after the NFL draft, his goal is to wrap up the process the right way. By the time training camp rolls around in July, he expects to be ready to go.
Skattebo played eight games as a rookie and put up 410 yards with five touchdowns on 101 carries, averaging 4.1 yards per attempt.
