Jauan Jennings free agency rumors leave NFL analyst baffled about 49ers WR

Jauan Jennings continues to have to fight for what he's worth.

The NFL is a wide receiver league at this point, yet the free agent from the San Francisco 49ers has found contract negotiations to be difficult lately.

Jennings still hasn't signed even though a bunch of the other best WRs available are now off the market, and it's confusing to some, including NFL analyst Jeff Bell.

Bell wrote on X:

"In a league desperate for WRs, Jauan Jennings' value in free agency has been baffling two out of the last three offseasons."

It's certainly a fair take. Jennings spent last offseason wanting a raise or a trade from the 49ers, and in the end, he still wound up on the open market this offseason rather than with San Francisco for the long run.

The advanced metrics favor what Jennings does, and so does an anecdotal view of his career, when you consider that basically any role the 49ers have needed him to do, he's performed admirably.

Because of his varied usage through his tenure in San Francisco, maybe it's hard for a team to envision Jennings in one defined role with them.

Another holdup here could be A.J. Brown on the trade market. Maybe a team that wants Brown and doesn't get him would instead go after Jennings.

There's also a talented bunch of wideouts in the 2026 NFL Draft class to choose from.

Still, it seems like Jennings could be a boost to a bunch of teams. He's overdue to be signed, and potentially for a solid payday, even if this delay signals he may not get exactly the money he's looking for.
