The Hull changing room was filled with delight on Tuesday following the team's commanding 2-1 victory at playoff contenders Wrexham.

That's according to matchwinner Lewis Koumas. The youngster is currently on loan at Hull from Liverpool and is impressing in Yorkshire. The Tigers were thoroughly deserving of all three points at the Racecourse as they achieved a league double over the Red Dragons for the first time in 77 years.

Joe Gelhardt's free-kick five minutes before half-time, followed by Koumas' clever header just past the hour mark, secured a well-earned triumph for Hull, although the closing stages proved tense after Nathan Broadhead pulled one back with 14 minutes remaining.

The result marked Hull's 10th away success this season and brought to an end a sequence of consecutive losses against sides positioned above it in recent days.

"It's a big win and a good three points on the road," Koumas told HullLive.

Koumas nearly claimed an assist when his powerful run and pass set up Liam Millar, whose goal-bound effort was impressively denied by Arthur Okonkwo.

From the subsequent corner, roles were reversed with Millar's excellent delivery nodded home by Koumas, and that strike proved decisive.

Koumas added: "It was an unfortunate miss from Liam. Good save by the keeper, but to get the chance, straight after, and then to score, it's a good feeling. It (the goal) did (mean a lot), to be fair, it's an important win for us, and I'm just happy with the three points.

"Them scoring with 15 minutes to go obviously isn't nice, and then afterwards they're just looking to put crosses and anything they can into the box.

"It was a bit of pressure, but we handled it well and saw it out.

"The lads (inside the locker room) are just buzzing with the graft and the shift from everyone. We're just happy to get the win, and now it's on to Saturday."

Hull perhaps hasn't reaped the points its performances against Ipswich and Millwall merited, but that certainly shifted in Koumas' homeland of Wales, and he believes his teammates can carry confidence into Saturday's match against the struggling Baggies.

"Yeah, that's football. We had a lot of chances to put the game to bed in the first half against Millwall, but, unfortunately, that wasn't the case, so to come and bounce back and get the win is just good for us all," he added.

"We got a lot of confidence from that, and yeah, we're just looking to go again Saturday."
