Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has admitted he is keen on a move back to Argentina at some point.
The 27-year-old has been in disappointing form this season, looking a shadow of the player who earned a Ballon d’Or nomination last year.
Despite his poor performances, Mac Allister has been consistently linked with Real Madrid, with Liverpool supporters anticipating a potential exit this summer. As rumours continue to swirl over his future, the No. 10 has spoken out to say he would “love” to return to former club Argentinos Juniors.

If no, where will he be instead?

Mac Allister plotting Argentine return
Now 27, Mac Allister has been away from his homeland for more than six years, having joined Brighton in 2020.
And while speaking to La Agusneta via Planet PBJ – a Boca Juniors site – the World Cup winner confirmed that he does have a plan to come back in the future.
“I would love to go back to Argentina,” he said. “I became a dad and you start prioritizing a lot of things, and maybe it’s not so selfish to only do what I want.
“I’d love to return to Argentinos Juniors because my dad and my brothers all grew up there and we’re grateful. And then, obviously, to Boca at some point.”

Although Mac Allister is clearly referring to several years down the line as his career comes to an end, at 27 he is no longer a spring chicken.
The fact that he is talking about a return to his home country should not concern Liverpool supporters in that respect, but that he is obviously thinking about a future away from Anfield may set off some alarm bells.
Mac Allister is not close to signing a new contract with the Reds despite reports that discussions were underway, and if he enters the final two years of his deal this summer, the possibility of an exit will loom larger than ever. If he leaves, he will not be going to Argentina, but the real question is whether he will spend the remainder of his prime years with Liverpool, or perhaps elsewhere.
