Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton ‘burst onto scene’ for Mario Gila

Mario Gila has emerged as one of Serie A’s most reliable defenders in recent seasons. Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton are considering the possibility of bringing him to England.

This season, the Spaniard has played 28 times in all competitions for Lazio. While he is a centre-back by trade, he also filled in at central midfield during a major injury crisis under Maurizio Sarri.

He’s become a bit of a leader in Rome, having joined from Real Madrid in 2022.

Lazio have been through a financial and identity crisis in the last few seasons but Gila’s performances have never really dropped. Many around him have left but the 25-year-old has become a real symbol for the club.

Sport Witness have previously covered interest from Chelsea in the defender, whose contract situation has remained uncertain for months now.

An exit from Lazio is now likely, with Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton interested.

Gila’s situation growing interesting

Mario Gila

TuttoSport today delve deep into the Spaniard’s future at Lazio. They note that a scout from AC Milan watched Gila closely in Lazio’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo on Monday, with the Rossoneri keen on the defender.

It is believed the defender does not want to renew his Lazio contract anymore, with his current deal expiring in 2027. This is now forcing the Biancocelesti into a summer sale and they naturally want as much as possible from his exit.

Milan’s task is unlikely to be easy. Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton have ‘burst onto the scene’ for Gila in recent weeks. Atletico Madrid are also keen and see him as a replacement for Jose Maria Gimenez.

The Rossoneri do not want to be involved in a bidding war in this saga, as they’re aware of how Lazio can turn this into a major auction.

This making the San Siro side possibly accelerate a move before other competitors take action.

Mario Gila will suit Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton

The centre-back will likely be an important signing for the three Premier League clubs. Apart from his obvious quality, Mario Gila is well capable of playing in a back three and a back four. This makes him quite an asset, with the player relying quite a bit on his ball-playing ability.

He also stands out with his recovery pace, which has constantly been evident in Sarri’s high-line system at Lazio.

The ex-Real Madrid player’s current valuation is largely unknown but it shouldn’t be more than €30m. This is because Lazio are still not in a great financial shape and accepted less than €30m for both Matteo Guendouzi and Taty Castellanos.

Besides, Gila’s contract situation should make it easier for Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton.
