Liverpool believe it is still possible to keep defender Ibrahima Konate beyond the summer, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.
Despite the Frenchman having just over three months left on his contract, Ornstein says the Reds remain in talks with the player and his agent about a renewal:

“I think there’s constructive conversation around that one. I do think there’s a will on both sides, player and club, to try and find an agreement.”
“It’s not there yet, but the conversations, from what we hear, are continuing and are pretty cordial.”
Van Dijk and Salah both signed deals in April
It does appear the Reds are making a habit of taking contract negotiations right to the very brink.
Captain Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah had to wait even longer than Konate has to agree a new contract, so there is still some hope that an agreement with the Frenchman is possible. Buy a van Dijk Liverpool shirt from the official club store here.
Should Liverpool give Konate a bumper new deal?
One of the reasons that talks with the centre-back have been so drawn out is due to the player’s demands for a substantial salary rise.
Konate currently takes home around £70,000 per week, so he is due an increase of some kind, but his form this campaign has been pretty erratic. His performance against Galatasaray on Tuesday night was among his worst of the entire season.
In that context, fans will be asking themselves whether the 26-year-old is worth all of the effort to keep. Of course, the cost of replacing him would also be substantial, so sporting director Richard Hughes has a fine line to tread.
