The Dallas Cowboys can turn to a $76 Million edge rusher to fill their needs following the Maxx Crosby announcement.
The Dallas Cowboys were once again in the running to bring Las Vegas Raiders edge Maxx Crosby to Texas following the news that the Baltimore Ravens have backed out of their deal to acquire Crosby.
But, late on Wednesday, March 11, Crosby took to X to announce that he’s returning to the Raiders. “Everything happens for a reason. Believe noting you hear and half of what you see. I’m a Raider. I’m Back,” he said in the post, with video footage of the Undertaker.
So, it appears Crosby is going to stay a Las Vegas Raider, although, of course, we know anything can still happen in the NFL. But, if Crosby, indeed, is off the table, there’s still an available blockbuster edge rusher that the Cowboys could target.
Dallas Cowboys Could Pivot to New Option After Maxx Crosby News
So, Crosby is out, or so we believe, but the Dallas Cowboys could target elite edge rusher Jonathan Greenard of the Minnesota Vikings. Now, Dianna Russini of The Athletic has reported that the Eagles are interested in Greenard, but considering that she also reported Travis Kelce would be open to teams other than the Chiefs and that proved be not the case at all, we should still consider Greenard an available option.
In a Wednesday, March 11, feature for The Landry Hat, Jason Kandel says Greenard is not only a great fit but healthier than Crosby.
“Ever since the Micah Parsons trade, Jerry Jones has been searching for a cheaper edge rusher to replace him with, and now his wish has been granted,” he note sin the piece. “For teams like Dallas who are rightfully spooked by Crosby’s medicals, the 2020 third-round pick is a cheaper alternative who is frankly underrated.”
He adds that “while Crosby is dealing with some brutal knee issues, the Florida product underwent shoulder surgery that ended his season early, but even that’s a lot less risky since he doesn’t require one first-round pick to acquire, let alone multiple. And Jerry, all the risk-taker, would be smart to play it safe.”
The issue is that the Vikings are asking for a Day 2 pick for Greenard, and the Cowboys don’t have one, but something else could be worked out. “If Jerry Jones really wants to improve this DL and bring in Greenard, he will have to get creative to do so, even though he’s far cheaper than Crosby,” Kandel adds.
As for the cash, Greenard has a four-year, $76,000,000 contract with the Minnesota Vikings, according to research from Spotrac.
Maxx Crosby Trade Shows That Things in the NFL Are Unpredictable
Crosby’s situation shows the unpredictable nature of the NFL. So, first, Crosby was traded from Vegas to the Baltimore Ravens, and then, they famously backed out of their deal to acquire him.
According to a report from Ryan McFadden of ESPN, Baltimore backed out of the deal due to Crosby’s physical. “No further details were provided in the Raiders’ announcement, but league sources told ESPN the Ravens backed out because of medical concerns that arose during a physical,” McFadden stated.
Crosby’s stats are still strong, regardless of his physical results. During the 2025NFL regular season, according to NFL research, Crosby recorded 73 total tackles, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and one interception.
