The Minnesota Vikings are getting ready to host their top quarterback target, Kyler Murray, who was released Wednesday by the Arizona Cardinals.

Before his visit, Murray has reportedly been meeting virtually with other teams who have interest in him, not necessarily for 2026, but for 2027. Of course, the only team he set up an in-person meeting with, immediately after hitting free agency, was the Vikings.

So when we SKOL nation woke up Thursday, it felt pretty good about the 28-year-old former No. 1 overall draft pick eventually signing with their favorite football team. Then this morning, Adam Schefter got on ESPN’s Get Up and made it all but official.

Unless something goes horribly wrong today out in Eagan, reports Schefty, Murray is expected to leave TCO Performance Center with a newly signed one-year $1.3 million contract in-hand to be the 2026 Minnesota Vikings quarterback.

After his visit today, Kyler Murray is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, per @AdamSchefter

“He’s expected to sign a one-year deal. We presume it will be with Minnesota. It’ll be a one year deal so he can be a free agent after this season… If and when he does sign with Minnesota, as we would think, then at that point in time, he’ll look to have a good year, play well and put himself [back] into the free agency market… I would imagine they’ll go through that visit today, and would imagine we’ll hear about a Kyler Murray deal later today.”

The success of next season will depend on KOC and his QB-friendly staff extracting as much of Kyler’s immense raw QB talent as humanly possible. However, should they make Murray into a 2026 version of Sam Darnold, it’s difficult to see the Vikings letting him walk like they did with the now Super Bowl winner.

Kyler Murray could be Sam Darnold 2.0 in Minnesota

And unlike Darnold, Murray has already been there, done that in the league. He’s a 2x Pro Bowler and 2019 offensive rookie of the year. Kyler has thrown for over 3,500 yards and 20+ touchdowns in all four seasons he’s played 14 or more games.

“There’s only 2-3 quarterbacks in NFL history that can make that throw Caleb Williams made.”

As recently as 2024, the former Oklahoma and Texas A&M superstar threw for 3,851 yards (68.8%), 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while adding another 572 yards and 5 touchdowns and 27 first downs on the ground.

Murray struggled in 2025 — before the Cardinals ditched him for Jacoby Brissett — throwing for just 962 yards (68.3%), 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. But the Minnesota Vikings are hoping to bring the stuff we saw out of Kyler in games like week 2 (2024) vs the Rams.

Throughout that 41-10 Cardinals victory, Kyler was throwing dimes all over the field — eventually totalling 266 yards (81.0%) 3 touchdowns and a perfect 158.3 QB rating. Former NFL QB Chase Daniel couldn’t believe what he was watching when he went back and checked the Kyler Murray tape from that game.

Kyler Murray to the Vikings is going to be my favorite move in free agency.

If he can just be a mid-level QB…the Vikings can easily be a 10 win playoff team with that rosters #SKOL pic.twitter.com/GNEdpF1Cfb
