Stephen Curry #30 of the Golden State Warriors reacts after he had an assist to Gary Payton II #0 in the third quarter of their game against the Miami Heat at Chase Center on January 19, 2026 in San Francisco, California.

The latestStephen Curry injury update signals the franchise star for the Golden State Warriors will miss at least another ten dayswith his ‘runner’s knee’ issue.

As Curry has been out since late January, still with no injury return timeline, that only makes a potential playoff run,and the team’s chances of making the postseason in general, less likely.

Stephen Curry injury update:

But after the latest Curry news, Golden State was recently urged to use the rest of the season to develop it’s young players and do its best to try to get the best possible pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, to either use to a potential top pick one of the college prospects, or use in a superstar trade, whether it be for Giannis Antetokounmpo or another available top-tier player on the market.

Curry Injury Is Good News For Warriors Giannis Trade Rumors

It’s fair to say, with all the injuries and struggles across the board for Golden State this season, punting on the rest of the year isn’t the craziest idea.Jimmy Butler is out, the Jonathan Kuminga for Kristaps Porzingis trade hasn’tbeen what the teamhoped, and the injury report has beenconstantly filled with some of the Warriors’ main contributors all season.

The team is set to make the Play-In Tournament, but according to Peter O’Keefe of BlueManHoop.com, Golden State could doits best toget a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, either using it to add another youngplayer oras an asset in a blockbuster trade this summer.

“This latest Curry update increases the chances of finishing 10th in the West, suffering a quick Play-In elimination, and holding the 11th-worst record in the league,” he wrote. “Such a result would give the Warriors an approximately 10% chance of landing a top four pick in what’s viewed as a loaded draft.”

The Warriors were linked to an Antetokounmpo trade over the past few months, and though no deal happened at the deadline, they are expected to be one of a few teams in the hunt for the Milwaukee Bucks‘ superstar this summer in hopes of making one more championship push with Curry.

“Getting lucky at the draft lottery — just as the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks have done in each of the past two years in similar situations — could completely transform and reshape the trajectory of the Golden State franchise,” O’Keefe added. “It would also give them a major asset to potentially use in a trade, especially if they want to renew interest in 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Either way, it would open up opportunities that aren’t currently in place for Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the front office.”

The chances of jumping up in the draft lottery remain unlikely, but with every loss the Warriors suffer for the rest of the season, their chances of landing a better asset for a superstar trade only increase, and with Curry out, it’s not like this current roster has the chance to compete at a high level in the Western Conference.

Stephen Curry Injury Update And Return Timeline

According to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, as first announced by the Warriors themselves, Curry is set to miss at least another ten days with his knee injury.

The Warriors will rule out Steph Curry for another 10 days, stretching five more games, sources tell me and @ShamsCharania. There has been notable progress. He’s back on the court and expected to intensify workouts in upcoming days. Absence will reach at least 20 games.

This is now the third time Curry has been given a ‘ten-day’ re-evaluation date, and he currently has no timeline for a potential return. The franchise star is now set to miss at least 20 games in a row, as he’s been out since January 30th with the knee injury.

While Slaterdidreport that there has been ‘notable progress,’ none of the latest injury updates have signaled Curry willget back on the court soon. Still, as the insider reported, the star isset on coming back this season, wheneverhe is finally cleared by the team.

“Curry has advanced to court work in recent days, which is a significant step in his attempted return,” he wrote for ESPN. “Team sources have continued to describe Curry as extremely motivated to return for the stretch run and try towork the wobbling Warriorsinto the playoffs through the play-in bracket. He will intensify court work in the coming days.”

For now, the Warriors are 32-33 and have lost seven of their last ten games. A Play-In Tournament appearance looks very likely, but winning two games against either the Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers,orPhoenix Suns doesn’t look to be in the cards, even with Curry back on the floor, meaning a lottery pick to either use or trade could be in the team’s future.
