It has been a subdued free agency period for the Falcons. Given the cap constraints, the new regime is pursuing low-cost deals to add quality depth in key areas with a few potential starters. The most notable signing occurred at quarterback, where a move was necessary following the decision to release Kirk Cousins. Signing Tua Tagovailoa gives them a capable veteran to bring competition and experience to a position in need of those qualities.

With the uncertainty surrounding Michael Penix Jr.’s outlook as he recovers from another devastating injury, it’s realistic to envision Tagovailoa being the opening day starter. What he can do beyond that is something everyone will ponder. Will a fresh start in a better infrastructure help the former fifth overall pick rediscover what made him a capable player? Is his accuracy and quick release better suited to operate in Kevin Stefanski’s system? If he can answer those questions, there is a strong case for him to overtake Penix Jr. as the definitive starter.

Is Tagovailoa the left-handed quarterback to lead the offense? Let us know your thoughts below on whether Tagovailoa could elevate the offense more than Penix Jr. could.
