Bucks’ Doc Rivers comments on Bam Adebayo’s polarizing 83-point explosion

Everyone has something to say about Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo’s historic scoring feat on Tuesday, including Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers.

Following Milwaukee’s 129-114 loss at Fiserv Forum at the hands of the Phoenix Suns, Rivers took time to comment on Adebayo’s 83-point output in the Heat’s 150-129 win in Miami over the Washington Wizards.

“Is it true a real human being scored 83 points tonight? Bam had 83 points? Wow,” Rivers told reporters. “That’s unbelievable. 43 FTs? Holy goodness. Well that’s who we play next so at least I get to watch the prep tape. It’ll be interesting. Wow. 83 points? That’s amazing!”

Adebayo went 20-for-43 from the field and hit seven of his 22 tries from behind the arc. He said he felt he was going to do something extraordinary when he had over 40 points by halftime. He also set new records for free throws made and attempted, as he shot 36-for-43 from the charity stripe. He recorded all those in 42 minutes.

What Adebayo did is perhaps as legendary as it is polarizing. Many congratulated Adebayo for surpassing Kobe Bryant for the second-highest scoring performance in a single game in NBA history, but others felt he did not do it the right way, as he took a bunch of free throws and his teammates had to resort to fouling in the fourth quarter to help him score as many points as possible.

All eyes on Adebayo again in Thursday’s Bucks-Heat game

It will be interesting to see how many points Adebayo can come up with in his next game. That will largely depend on the Bucks’ defense, as Milwaukee is set to play the Heat down in South Beach this Thursday evening.

For what it’s worth, Adebayo scored 17 and 18 points in the first and second meetings this season with Milwaukee, respectively.
