Where Former Patriots Star Stefon Diggs Ranks Among Top Remaining Free Agents

NFL free agents are flying off the board, but Stefon Diggs is still seeking a new home.

The New England Patriots officially released Diggs on Wednesday after a successful return from an ACL tear. New England seemingly reduced the odds of reuniting with the four-time Pro Bowler by signing Romeo Doubs from the Green Bay Packers.

Diggs stands out as one of the biggest names remaining on the open market. ESPN's Matt Bowen ranked Diggs fifth among the NFL's top available free agents as of Thursday morning.

However, Bowen doesn't think Diggs is the top unsigned wide receiver. Jauan Jennings tops him at No. 3 after recording 643 yards and nine touchdowns with the San Francisco 49ers last season.

Offensive lineman Rasheed Walker and quarterback Kyler Murray lead the rankings, and Taylor Decker ranks one spot before Diggs.

"Reduced play speed keeps Diggs a little lower on our list, but he's still a savvy route runner -- with inside/outside alignment flex -- who can create separation to the ball," Bowen wrote. "Plus, he has the toughness to operate between the numbers on in-breaking concepts."

Diggs collected a team-high 85 catches and gave the Patriots their first 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019. Yet the 32-year-old settled for a modest 110 yards in four postseason games, and releasing him saved $16.8 million in cap space.
