Insider Unleashes as Seahawks Cut Ties With $15 Million Star: ‘Glad He’s Gone’

The Seahawks did not appear eager to re-sign Riq Woolen.

It was a wild ride for the Seattle Seahawks and former Pro Bowl cornerback Riq Woolen. After falling out of favor with the team early during the 2025 season, Woolen was able to bounce back to become a critical part of the team’s Super Bowl run.

Yet, no play represented Woolen’s tenure with the Seahawks more than his costly personal foul penalty during the NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams. Woolen deflected a pass but earned a personal foul for taunting the Rams sideline.

Los Angeles scored a touchdown on Woolen’s receiver the very next play.

CBS Sports’ Ross Tucker was on the Rams sideline when the play occurred. The NFL analyst revealed that Seattle is “glad he’s gone” after Woolen signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I’m right there. The ref says to him, ‘All right, all right, all right. That’s enough. That’s enough. All right, that’s enough,'” Tucker explained on 94 WIP Philadelphia. “Nope. He just keeps going down the entire sideline. Every player, every coach, (until) he gets to Matthew Stafford and gets up in Stafford’s face.

“… You could tell the ref in his head was like, this guy has got to be kidding me. And he threw the flag. He goes over to the Seahawks sideline. They are yelling. His own teammates are yelling at him,” Tucker added.

“… They do not like him in Seattle. They are so glad he’s gone. Not only did he lead the NFL in taunting penalties last year, he had more taunting penalties than any other team.”

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Seahawks news.

Ex-Seahawks CB Riq Woolen Signed a $15 Million Contract With the Eagles

Ross Tucker tells a Riq Woolen story and then adds:

“They are so glad he is gone in Seattle…He had more taunting penalties than any other team!” 😳

Woolen landed a one-year deal with the Eagles worth up to $15 million, per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. This is more than Spotrac’s projected market value of a one-year, $8.1 million contract.

For the Eagles, it is not a massive gamble given Woolen’s deal is just for one season. Seattle clearly preferred to re-sign Josh Jobe over Woolen.

The Seahawks still have some work to do in the secondary with Woolen and Coby Bryant both departing in free agency.

The Seahawks Were Able to Re-Sign Playmaker Rashid Shaheed

Jobe is not the only key Seahawks player who the team was able to re-sign. Versatile playmaker Rashid Shaheed is back in Seattle on a deal projected to be worth more than $51 million. Shaheed is already looking ahead to having a full offseason with the Seahawks after being traded by the New Orleans Saints at the mid-season mark.

“We’re dangerous, we know that, we know what we can do,” Shaheed told Seahawks.com’s John Boyle during a March 11, interview. “Obviously with JSN (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) being the Offensive Player of the Year, we know what he can do, Coop (Cooper Kupp) is still doing it, me being able to provide in ways that I can, and then Tory, there’s so many different varieties of athletes, and we all can make plays in different ways, so it’s going to be a ton of fun.

“… I’m super excited to get a full offseason with this team, with these coaches. It’s exciting that I get to be around these guys for a longer amount of time and build off of what we built last year, and for my role to continue to grow. Just being a part of it all is special.”
