Colts' Anthony Richardson rumor updates his future plans

At this point, Anthony Richardson knows he needs a new home.

It hasn't worked out with the Indianapolis Colts, and they've given Daniel Jones a lot of money to be their franchise quarterback.

Richardson is officially a draft bust, at least as far as the Colts are concerned. Injuries played a part in that, but the reason is less relevant than the reality.

Indy used a top-five pick on Richardson, and at this point, it looks like a waste.

So what now?

NFL reporter Evan Sidery wrote this on X on Thursday:

"There is a strong likelihood Anthony Richardson won’t find a team who will provide him the opportunity to compete for a starting job. Richardson is open to learning behind an established veteran before becoming a free agent in 2027. The Colts are actively shopping Richardson."

At this point, despite there being an assertion there that it's still in question, of course there's no team that would give Richardson a starting job to begin the 2026 season.

It makes much more sense for him to follow the path taken by other recent reclamation QB success stories, like Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold and even Jones.

If Richardson works under a solid coaching staff with a veteran quarterback in front of him, that gives him as good a chance to grow as anything.

Then he could try and find a new shot. It may take a few years to resurface, but Richardson can only do so much.

And if the Colts trade him at this point, it won't be for much, but it may be the best thing they can do just to get a little bit of value out of him before he's gone.
