LIVERPOOL are expected to prioritise the signing of a new winger during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a fresh report from respected journalist David Ornstein.
The Athletic reporter has indicated that Liverpool’s recruitment team are likely to enter the market for a wide attacker once the season concludes, as the club look to strengthen the flanks under head coach Arne Slot.
Ornstein suggested that Liverpool’s hierarchy view the winger position as an area where reinforcements could add needed depth and dynamism to the squad ahead of the 2026–27 campaign. The Reds have spent heavily in recent transfer windows but are still evaluating options to refresh their attacking line.
Liverpool’s interest in a wide attacker comes amid concerns over the team’s performances in wide areas this season. Slot has previously admitted that the winger role is one of the most demanding positions in his tactical system, which relies heavily on pace, creativity and direct running from the flanks.
The Dutch coach’s side have struggled at times to consistently threaten opposition defences, with several attacking players enduring inconsistent form throughout the campaign. Reports have noted that the team’s overall attacking output has dipped compared to previous seasons, increasing the pressure on Liverpool’s recruitment staff to address the issue during the summer window.
Although Ornstein did not confirm specific transfer targets, several wide players have already been linked with a potential move to Anfield in recent months. RB Lipzig star Yan Diomande is among the names believed to be admired by *LIVERPOOL*’s scouting department, while other high-profile wingers across Europe have also been monitored.
Elsewhere, reports suggest Liverpool have kept tabs on emerging talents across the continent as they explore both established and younger options capable of fitting Slot’s system.
Competition for elite wide players could prove fierce, however. Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise is a player who has attracted interest from multiple European giants including Liverpool, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, though his current club are reportedly reluctant to sanction a transfer.
Liverpool’s recruitment drive follows a period of significant investment in the squad. In recent years the club have added several attacking options, including striker Alexander Isak and forward Hugo Ekitike, as part of a broader squad rebuild aimed at keeping the club competitive both domestically and in Europe.
While the exact identity of *LIVERPOOL*’s next winger target remains unclear, Ornstein’s update suggests the position will be a key focus for the club’s decision-makers when the transfer window opens.
