Opinion: Dominic Calvert-Lewin's latest Ancelotti admission speaks volumes about Sean Dyche at…

Former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has shared why he succeeded under Carlo Ancelotti, which highlights why he struggled under Sean Dyche.

Calvert-Lewin has since departed Merseyside, but the striker has waxed lyrical about just how good Ancelotti’s man management skills were.

He may have departed Merseyside struggling for form, but Calvert-Lewin has praised his time at Everton recently having joined Leeds United last summer.

The striker worked under a number of different managers, but Ancelotti was naturally the one who impressed Calvert-Lewin the most.

Gareth Bale praised Ancelotti’s man management skills when he featured on the Stick to Football podcast.

In discussion with CBS Sports, that is something which Calvert-Lewin echoed following their time together at Goodison Park.

“He’s a legend, and I’ve had to answer many questions about him since working with him. For me, he was exactly what I needed at that time in my career, which is probably why I produced two of my best seasons,” said the striker.

“I think he came in with his stature and he just commands the room when he walks in. He gave me confidence by the way he spoke to me, and he spoke to me on a human level as well. He is a great man-manager, one of the best, if not the best, that the game has and he really resonated with me at the time.”

Calvert-Lewin made 60 appearances under Ancelotti and almost provided a return of a goal every other game with 29 goals scored.

Ancelotti loved working with Calvert-Lewin, but the striker’s comments only highlight why he was able to flourish under the Italian and not Sean Dyche while at Everton.

Calvert-Lewin’s struggles under Sean Dyche now make sense

Calvert-Lewin shared some of the punishments Dyche instilled at Everton, which clearly failed to get the best out of the striker.

The 28-year-old’s frustrations under Dyche were made public through some of the comments made by his partner during his time on Merseyside.

Looking at Calvert-Lewin’s production under both Ancelotti and Dyche offers a fair comparison given an almost identical number of games were played by the striker.

Goals 29 11

Assists 6 5

Dyche admitted one Everton player wanted to avoid their relegation decider back in 2023, which does also provide some evidence towards his management style.

But that is not the biggest incident to come from the 54-year-old’s tenure, with Nathan Patterson and Dyche involved in an altercation during a warm-weather training camp.

He may have guided Everton to Premier League survival, but it is clear that Dyche was not everyone’s favourite at Everton.
