It has been quite a 2025 season for Philadelphia Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson, as he almost retired after injuries affected his performance, but with his return comes a different contract for him.
ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler reported that the Eagles and Dickerson have reworked his contract to be a two-year deal worth $36 million. Dickerson was originally going to get $39 million in 2026 and 2027, but he can now hit that with incentives on the new deal. He's due $15.7 million in 2026 and is no longer under contract in 2028.
Dickerson has had a nice start to his NFL career with the Eagles, as he made the Pro Bowl three straight years from 2022 through 2024. Despite still playing in 15 games last season, lingering injuries really hurt his performance on the field with a Pro Football Focus grade of 67.2, ranking him 30th out of 81 offensive guards in the NFL. In 468 pass blocking snaps, he allowed 32 pressures, seven quarterback hits, and five sacks, as well as committed five penalties on the season.
Eagles reworked Landon Dickerson's contract says a lot
Dickerson seriously considered retirement after dealing with all his injuries, but decided to come back for another season. That is worrisome for the Eagles as they plan for the franchise's future.
Philly has shown its worry by making this a two-year deal and shaving some money off of it. This is great on Dickerson's part in helping save the franchise money, but it might be more telling about his future plans.
The Eagles and Dickerson could be bracing for his career to end after the 2027 season, or he will at least play year by year. Just this offseason, the Chicago Bears saw their Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman retire at the age of 27. It's very much possible the Eagles could face a similar situation with Dickerson, who is also just 27.

This is going to be a problem for the Eagles in the future, and one of the main reasons they need to draft an offensive guard, in case these are the last two years of Dickerson's Eagles or NFL career.
