With a game in Memphis, Tennessee, on Thursday, March 12, the Dallas Mavericks are slated to take on a depleted Memphis Grizzlies team

The Mavs could end up giving one of their key veterans the night off. The team announced that Klay Thompson would enter the day on the injury report. He is listed as doubtful.

Going into the game, the Mavericks are 21-44 on the year. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies have been slightly better with a 23-41 record. Both teams are on the outside looking in at the NBA Play-In Tournament.

The Dallas Mavericks list Klay Thompson (rest) as doubtful against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The three two-way contract players are doubtful. Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II remain out for the season.

Fortunately, Thompson hasn’t suffered any setbacks to keep him off the court for an extended period this season. That’s been one of the few positives for the Mavericks this year, as they navigate through a disappointing season.

In addition to Thompson being on the injury report, the Mavericks have a handful of names who will or could miss the action against the Grizzlies. Moussa Cisse is doubtful for G League reasons. John Poulakidas and Tyler Smith are listed as doubtful for the same designation.

Then, there’s Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II. Irving is out due to his torn ACL from last season. He’ll continue to miss time for the Mavericks, as he’s been ruled out for the rest of the season. As for Lively, he underwent surgery on his foot. He is also out on Thursday.

Where The Mavericks Stand

Heading into the battle against the Grizzlies, the Mavericks are ranked 13th in the Western Conference. They are 2.5 games behind the Grizzlies, with the New Orleans Pelicans right in between them with a 22-45 record.

Heading into the 2025-2026 NBA season, the Mavericks had goals of becoming a contender in the West. With Kyrie Irving expected to play at some point, Anthony Davis getting a full season with the Mavs, and Cooper Flagg coming into the picture, it seemed the Mavs were good on paper.

But injuries affected Davis, and the trickle effect was major. Eventually, Davis was traded to the Washington Wizards. At that point, the Mavericks were already sliding down the West.

Klay Thompson recorded a team-high 21 points off the bench against the Hawks tonight, shooting 5-of-11 from deep.

He now has an NBA-best 14 games with at least five 3-pointers as a reserve this season.

For Thompson, year two with the Mavs has been just as disappointing from a team standpoint. When he signed with the club in 2024, he anticipated joining a true contender. Instead, he’s earning $50 million on a team that’s on pace to miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.
