Everton fans will never forget the way Anthony Gordon acted before his departure in January 2023.
The England international refused to turn up for training at Finch Farm three days in a row before Everton eventually agreed to a £45m deal with Newcastle – sparking understandable anger from supporters considering the Toffees took him in at the age of 11 after his release from Liverpool and helped to build his career.
While no Everton fan will forget that behaviour from Anthony Gordon, Gary Neville appears to have no recollection of it whatsoever after his latest comments on the Stick to Football podcast.
Anthony Gordon feels Everton fans have treated him terribly
“I think the effort I gave them last year… I won players’ players (of the year) and manager’s player of the year, so for them to not even show me any credit or thank me, it hurts a little bit.”

Gary Neville surprisingly claims Anthony Gordon always “turns up” for his side
The Newcastle No.10 was forced to start the 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on the bench earlier this week due to illness.
As Neville argued with Roy Keane about why that was the right call and tried to defend the Everton academy graduate, he said: “Anthony Gordon hasn’t got a history of not turning up. He turns up, to be fair to him.”
Not in January 2023 he didn’t.
The Liverpool-born forward even decided to submit an official transfer request after going on strike for three consecutive days during that saga in 2023.

Gordon, who Andros Townsend felt needed to work harder in his early days, has admittedly been a reliable professional for Newcastle, but for Neville to say the 25-year-old has not got a record of going missing is just plainly untrue.
Everton fans must be starting to distrust Gary Neville
This is not the first time the Manchester United legend has delivered a questionable comment on Everton this season.
Neville contradicted himself when talking about James Tarkowski recently, claiming the Everton No.6 was right to have a penalty awarded against him in the 1-0 defeat at Leeds, only to then say officials cannot give a handball for incidents like that just months later.
Amazing how his opinion has changed when it’s not involving Everton… 🤯
Is anyone even surprised at the levels of hypocrisy anymore? 😡

Everton supporters can take criticism, but when the facts are ignored and contradictions are made, it is hard to take analysis like this seriously.
