Broncos re-sign WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey to a one-year deal

The Denver Broncos have announced that they have re-signed wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey to a one-year deal worth $1.3 million, which is the veteran minimum.

The Broncos continue to re-sign depth players at vet minimum deals by bringing back veteran wide receiver and blocking specialist Lil’Jordan Humphrey on a one-year deal. He is a favorite of head coach Sean Payton and has played significant and important snaps for the Broncos in recent seasons. Most recently, he caught a deep touchdown pass from quarterback Bo Nix in the Divisional Round of the playoffs during their thrilling comeback victory vs. the Buffalo Bills.

Now, I understand fans are angry that the Broncos have not brought in any new players as of yet, but being angry about a vet minimum deal isn’t it. Considering how much Lil’Jordan usually ends up playing, that’s a bargain for the Broncos. They tried moving on from him last year and replaced him by signing veteran Trent Sherfield to a two-year deal worth $6 million dollars. Well, he ended up being cut halfway through the season while the Broncos brought LJH back. So, instead of going down that road again, they decide to keep Humphrey on a vet minimum deal.

At best, he is the Broncos 5th or 6th wide receiver on the roster and is not a guarantee to even make the 53-man roster. He’s a depth player who is likely headed to the practice squad to serve as depth and be elevated or signed to the roster when needed.

I know there will be outrage over this re-signing, but it’s just a vet minimum deal. If they signed some random wide receiver most of us never heard about for this role (Trent Sherfield last year at 2 for $6 million), would people feel better? The Broncos brought back a player they know, who is an experienced depth player getting paid the veteran minimum. Not the end of the world.
