While Wembanyama was dealing with a nose injury during the team’s last game against the Boston Celtics, andwhile hedid end up playing 37 minutes in what was a standout performance, the staris still uncertain for Thursday night.

But now, it’s an ankle injury that could keep him out for San Antonio’s next game.

“Spurs are saying Victor Wembanyama is a “true 50/50” for tonight,” Matthew Tynan wrote in a post on X. “It was a light shootaroundand he participated, but there wasn’t any up-and-down court time.”

Amid the latest injury update, Wembanyama’s MVP odds have been surging recently, as he and the Spurs have been the hottest team in the NBA over the past two months.

Victor Wembanyama Injury Update

Wembanyama’s right ankle officially became an issue on Wednesday, asit was reported by Jared Weiss of The Athletic that he was questionable for the game against Denver.

“Victor Wembanyama is questionable for tomorrow’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets with right ankle soreness,” he wrote in a post on X.

While the nose injury Wembanyama suffered against the Celtics was a leading storyline after the game, it didn’t cause a drop in his performance, as the French center finished the night with 39 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in a marquee matchup against Boston.

“It’s congested and painful. Fortunately, I don’t need it to play basketball,” Wembanyama said, according to reporter Maxime Aubin. “I think I took the hit right under the nose. It’s a bit blurry. I don’t remember it very well. Was it bleeding? Yes, yes. Honestly, it really hurt.”

The nose doesn’t appear to be the issue now, as Wembanyama’s ankle soreness would be the reason he could potentially miss the game versus the Nuggets. For now, he’s a game-time decision.

Harrison Barnes is also on the Spurs injury report, currently listed as questionable for the upcoming game with an ankle injury himself.

Victor Wembanyama MVP Odds Surging

With how well he’s played this season, and the Spurs’ overall success this year, Wembanyama has been a leading candidateto win the NBA MVP award fora few months now.

Whilepreviously the 22-year-old was fourth in NBA MVP odds, his chances of winning the award have since surged. According to DraftKings, Wembanyama is tied with Nikola Jokic as having the second-best odds at +1500, while on FanDuel, he is the outright second favorite at +700.

Inthe month of March, Wembanyama is averaging 28 points, 11 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 4.2 blocks per game, while San Antonio has won their last five games in arow andhas just two losses since the start of February. He was also recently named Player of the Week in the Western Conference for his standout recent performances.

NBA Communications

San Antonio Spurs forward-center Victor Wembanyama and Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 20 of the 2025-26 season (March 2-8).

Wembanyama still ranks behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexanderas having the best MVP odds. However, he is currently a heavy favorite to win the Defensive Player of the Year. With his prowess on that end of the floor, the tallest player in the NBA will likely be leading the race for that award in every single year of his career that he remains healthy.

But for now, he still has the chance to win the NBA MVP award this season. It would require the Oklahoma City Thunder star to sit out more games in the final stretch of the regular season, which, while that seems unlikely, can’t be ruled out.
