Rams fans can grin as NFL teams break apart Seahawks roster in free agency

The Los Angeles Rams understand the pain that follows a Super Bowl-winning season. After the 2021 NFL season, LA never seemed to be the same, as they fell to a record of 6-11 the following year. Not only did the team lose key coaches to other NFL teams, but Los Angeles also lost key contributors to other NFL teams in the free agency market.

Now it's the Seattle Seahawks turn, as they have yet to add a new free agent, while four key contributors have already agreed to play for new teams. That's a problem, but not for Los Angeles. While the Seahawks stall in their offseason improvements, both Los Angeles and the San Francisco 49ers make progress. Just how poorly has Seattle fared this offseason? Just check this out:

Those are talented players, all playing for competing teams. That's the way it goes for a Super Bowl winner. Other teams rush in with lucrative contracts, making it impossible for the winning team to retain players. It's one of the main reasons why it's so difficult to repeat as champions.

LA Rams roster upgraded at key positions this offseason

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead acted swiftly and concisely to upgrade one of the biggest vulnerabilities in the offseason. But it was not merely the addition of a new cornerback tandem by trading for Kansas City Chiefs Trent McDuffie and signing his teammate Jaylen Watson.

Upgrading the secondary began with the extension of defensive back Quentin Lake. When the team extended his teammate Kam Curl, the strategy began to appear. With the best of LA's and Kansas City's secondaries combined, Los Angeles could challenge even the most complete and elite receivers in the NFL.

While it's still early in free agency, the depletion of chemistry and experience in Seattle will be hard to recoup in the remainder of free agency and in the upcoming draft. Many NFL teams try to retain players as a Super Bowl window is fleeting.

Most fail to do so.

If Seattle's strategy is to embrace the descent and work to restock the talent pipeline for a future run at a Super Bowl, they are well on their way. The exodus of talented players will almost certainly trigger the algorithm for the awarding of compensatory picks in the 2027 NFL Draft.

But that comes at the expense of the 2026 NFL season.

As always, thanks for reading.
