Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes has quickly emerged as one of West Ham’s key players since joining from Southampton for over £40 million in August 2025.
According to Sports Boom, Arsenal are evaluating the 21-year-old as part of their plans to strengthen the squad under Mikel Arteta.
Fernandes has impressed with his composure on the ball, ability to control the tempo of games, and versatility in both attacking and defensive phases.
The report suggests that Arsenal’s recruitment team views him as an ideal fit for their possession-based style, capable of dictating play in midfield while contributing across the pitch.
Manchester United and Liverpool Also Interested
Interest in Fernandes isn’t limited to Arsenal.
Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly monitoring his performances as they consider midfield reinforcements for next season. United scouts, in particular, have observed him closely in multiple fixtures, noting his technical skill, work rate, and ability to cover ground effectively.
West Ham are aware of the growing attention on Fernandes and are expected to demand a substantial fee should any club attempt a transfer. Reports suggest the Hammers could seek a figure in the region of £65 million, though their negotiating leverage could diminish if they suffer relegation.
With several top Premier League clubs showing interest, Fernandes’ future could be one of the most talked-about moves of the summer. West Ham will have to decide whether to hold on to their midfield star or cash in on a potential windfall, particularly if survival in the top flight remains uncertain.
