St Mirren is on the hunt for a new manager with Stephen Robinson joining Scottish Premier rivals Aberdeen. A compensation clause was triggered in his contract.
It brought down a curtain on a successful four-year spell having won the Scottish League Cup this past December, beating Celtic 3-1 at Hampden to give the club its second-ever League Cup and first major trophy in 12 years.
The 51-year-old also brought European football back to the fanbase for the first time in 37 years.
St Mirren chairman Dave Cormack, in a club statement, hailed Robinson as one of the club’s ‘greatest ever managers’:
“I would like to place on record the club’s sincere thanks to Stephen Robinson for his tremendous contributions during his time as our manager.”
“While we are sad to see Stephen leave the club, he departs with the best wishes of everyone at St Mirren after four years of outstanding service.”
“Stephen will rightfully go down as one of St Mirren’s greatest ever managers.”
With that chapter now closed, attention has quickly turned to who picks up the reins in Paisley.
The Daily Record has reported that former Reds midfielder Charlie Adam is understood to be keen on the vacancy and has put himself in the frame to become Robinson’s successor.
The ex‑Scotland international, who spent the 2011/12 season at Anfield under Kenny Dalglish, was part of the squad that lifted the League Cup that year.
Adam has already sampled life in the dugout with Fleetwood Town before he was sacked in December 2024, and is currently working as a set‑piece coach at Everton.
St Mirren has asked Craig McLeish to lead the interim coaching team for Sunday’s meeting with Rangers.
