Alvin Kamara embodies the New Orleans Saints’ heritage. He is the franchise leader with 7,250 rushing yards and 86 total touchdowns. However, the 2025 season was a nightmare for the veteran. He suffered ankle injuries and a sprained ligament, ending his play early. He recorded 471 rushing yards in 11 regular-season games. His tenure with the team is in jeopardy.

Head coach Kellen Moore spoke to the media on Wednesday about the roster. He gave a blunt response regarding the future of Kamara. Moore said he will not be a spokesperson for athletes’ private decisions.
“I mean, we’ve had some conversations,” Moore said. “I think we’ll let you know players go through their process and not be the spokespeople for them, but we love all those guys, and so we’ll just let this thing.”
The Saints signed another running back, Travis Etienne Jr., to a four-year, $52 million contract. Etienne Jr. comes from the Jacksonville Jaguars to improve the offense.
“We feel u obviously we know Alvin means a lot to us,” Moore said. “Again, this is we’re three days in this thing we’ve signed Travis, and we’ll go through that process.”

Alvin Kamara Would Retire If Saints Attempted To Trade Him
New Orleans also took action on the contract of Alvin Kamara on March 6. The team used the 50 percent rule to lower his 2026 salary cap hit by $8.1 million.
Kamara previously said that if Mickey comes downstairs to trade him, he will go drink a piña colada.
“I don’t want to go anywhere,” Kamara said. “If I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and be like, ‘Hey, we’re trading you. Just so you know.’ So if Mickey come downstairs and says that, then I’m going to go drink a pina colada somewhere.”
The coach said having personnel like Tyler Shough provides a stable picture for those looking at New Orleans. The team will work through the situation with Kamara as the program progresses. The Saints want to avoid the misery of another losing season.
