New England Patriots: Kevin Byard drops massive confession about signing with team in NFL free…

After losing Super Bowl LX, the New England Patriots set out in the 2026 NFL off-season looking to improve their roster. Clearly, they already had pieces in place to make them one of the league’s best teams. However, they also were not good enough.

So far in the early days of free agency, New England has made some significant additions on both offense and defense. Offensively, they signed for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year contract worth up to $80 million.

Defensively, they signed All-Pro safety Kevin Byard, who is reuniting with head coach Mike Vrable.

Byard is a three-time All-Pro safety that previously played for Vrable during their days together with the Titans. In fact, Byard made two of this First Team All-Pro’s while playing for the Patriots head coach. His third came last season while he was playing for the Chicago Bears and led the league in interceptions.

During his introductory news conference, Byard revealed that he strongly considered re-signing with Chicago, but at the end of the day, he could not ignore the fact that New England was his number one destination:

Kevin Byard on signing with the #Patriots:

“This was my top destination to go to… the culture of this team, this organization, it’s obviously a winning culture. I think the pieces that they have in place… It makes it attractive for any free agent to wanna come here.” pic.twitter.com/38dyUYS06F

Indeed, New England certainly has a great recent history of winning, and Vrable was able to turn the team around in a very short amount of time.

Hopefully, Byard can help the Patriots take the next step, and this time be atop the Super Bowl podium again.
