The Buffalo Bills were cited as a popular destination for Mike Evans if the future Hall of Fame wide receiver was going to leave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason in free agency.
In the end, Evans signed with the San Francisco 49ers, but his path there might be painful to Bills fans.
Evans revealed at his introductory press conference on Thursday that the Bills were in the running.
"I was looking at here, Buffalo Bills, teams that needed a No. 1 wide receiver,” Evans said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “I liked this place. This was my No. 1 spot on my own (research).”

Evans certainly will be the top tog in San Francisco. Kyle Shanahan will have a good time figuring out how to use him best to enhance Brock Purdy and the rest of the 49ers' offense.
With the way the offseason moved, the Bills may have actually gotten in their own way on Evans a bit. Buffalo traded for DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears, and that crowded up the discussion of top receiver in the room.
The Bills also rely on slot guy Khalil Shakir a lot, along with the tight ends, running backs and even Josh Allen's legs.
Surely, though, Buffalo would've found plenty of ways to make Evans look good, but the Bills missed out in the end.
These Evans comments are slightly less painful since the Bills got Moore. He mitigates the miss on another top WR.
Still, the Bills would've loved Evans, and as it turns out, he really thought about Buffalo, which has to sting a bit.
