At last, the Seattle Seahawks have finally signed an outside free agent!
Thomas battled his way onto the Colts’ 53-man roster as a rookie and ended up becoming their starting strong safety in his 2nd year. Nick Cross was eventually preferred to Thomas and replaced him in the starting lineup in 2024. While Thomas hasn’t started recently, he’s been a fixture on Indy’s special teams units.
For the Seahawks, safety became a position of need after losing safety Coby Bryant in free agency to the Chicago Bears. It will be interesting to see if Thomas is given a chance to compete for a starting position against Ty Okada, or if the Seahawks hand Okada the starting position alongside Julian Love. Seattle will seemingly give backup safeties AJ Finley and Maxen Hook a look too. Regardless, bringing in another safety with starting experience like Thomas will help put Seattle in a position to not have to force a draft pick at safety come April.
