49ers reunite with star LB on $7.5 million one-year deal after Broncos stint

The San Francisco 49ers have made a few fun additions to the team this offseason. Mike Evans and Osa Odighizuwa are some very solid and exciting additions.

But, they're not done adding to this team yet. The 49ers are still looking to improve the roster, and a pass rusher is still on the docket. So too is linebacker. At least, it was.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are in agreement on a $7.5 million contract for one year with Dre Greenlaw. After a year with the Denver Broncos, Greenlaw is returning home.

49ers agree to $7.5M deal with Dre Greenlaw

"Reunion: The 49ers are signing back one of their former stars, agreeing to terms with LB Dre Greenlaw, sources say," Rapoport reports. "The former SF draft pick spent last season with the Broncos and now returns on a 1-year, $7.5M deal."

The 49ers reuniting with Greenlaw, pairing him with Fred Warner once again, is a very exciting pickup this offseason for the San Francisco defense.

After Robert Saleh left for the Tennessee Titans' head coaching job, Raheem Morris landed the defensive coordinator job on Kyle Shanahan's staff.

The Odighizuwa trade and now the Greenlaw signing are two very fun moves for the 49ers to make this offseason to revamp the defense.

Despite playing in just eight games last year for the Broncos, partially due to injury and in part for an unsportsmanlike conduct suspension for contact with an official, Greenlaw had a productive year.

He had one interception, two passes defended, one forced fumble, one sack, 43 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits.

While he's had struggles to stay on the field, when he can suit up, he's been one of the better linebackers in the league. Greenlaw returning to the 49ers this offseason was a move that made too much sense for both sides.

The 49ers land a high-upside linebacker to pair alongside Warner in 2026, while Greenlaw gets a chance to bounce back and land another big contract next offseason by signing this one-year contract worth $7.5 million to return to where he initially broke out in the NFL.
