Veteran Linebacker With Nearly 500 Tackles Signs Contract With San Francisco 49ers

Cut at the beginning of the new league year, Dre Greelaw has a new contract heading into the 2026 NFL season. Once a fifth-round pick, Grenlaw played the majority of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. Last year, he suited up for the Denver Broncos. Recently, Greenlaw signed a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Greenlaw was the fifth-round pick of the 49ers in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Arkansas. As a rookie, Greenlaw was one of the best linebackers in the NFL. He amassed 92 tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, one sack, two pass breakups, and one interception. For his efforts, he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie team. He followed that performance up with another solid season, logging 86 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, one sack, and one pass breakup.

Then, his 2021 season was interrupted by injury. After just one game, Greenlaw was put on injured reserve due to a groin injury. He returned for the Week 12 win over the Minnesota Vikings, but was inactive again for the next five weeks. Greenlaw played in the final game of the year, finishing his season with 21 tackles, one quarterback hit, one pass breakup, and one pick-six.

His 2022 season was his best. In his fourth professional season, Greenlaw added 127 tackles, three tackles for loss, six pass breakups, an interception, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, one of which was a scoop-and-score touchdown.

He backed that 15-game season up with another 15-game masterpiece in 2023. That year, he amassed 120 tackles, five tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and four pass breakups. Infamously, Greenlaw tore his Achilles when coming back into the game in Super Bowl 58. As a result of that Achilles tear, Greenlaw missed the majority of the 2024 season. He attempted to return in Week 15, but he only managed two games and was shut down for the final two.

Following the 2024 season, Greenlaw hit free agency and landed with the Broncos on a three-year, $35 million deal. Greenlaw started the season on PUP/IR due to a quad injury he suffered in training camp. Additionally, he missed one game due to a suspension for running at a referee, and missed the final two games due to a hamstring injury.
