Bryce Huff retires one year after being traded by the Eagles

Former Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Bryce Huff, who turns 28 in April, unexpectedly announced he’s retiring from the NFL on Thursday afternoon.

Huff revealed as much in a video posted to his official Instagram account:

While reading a prepared statement, Huff had the following to say about his short-lived Eagles tenure:

> “I spent a year in Philadelphia where we won a Super Bowl. It wasn’t the smoothest season for me, personally, and I’ve always been honest about that. Early on, I let things affect how I approach my work and by the time I got my mind right, I had torn a ligament in my wrist. That injury forced me to step back and really evaluate what really mattered in my life.”

He then touched on his time with the San Francisco 49ers, who he joined last year after the Eagles traded him for a conditional 2026 draft selection that ended up being a fifth-round pick but once had the potential to elevate to a fourth-rounder.

Playing in 15 games for the Niners last season, Huff logged four sacks. That’s 1.5 more sacks than the 2.5 he had in Philly despite signing a three-year, $51.1 million contract with the Eagles in March 2024.

Although he was a healthy scratch for Super Bowl LIX and he said his Super Bowl ring doesn’t mean anything to him, he was ultimately part of that championship team. Perhaps the greatest team in Eagles history.

And now his NFL career is over.
