Samson Ebukam will leave the Colts after three seasons

The Indianapolis Colts will be without one of their better pass rushers for the last few seasons.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter announced that EDGE rusher Samson Ebukam has reached an agreement with the Atlanta Falcons. The terms of the deal have yet to be revealed.

Ebukam joined the Colts in the 2023 free agency on a three-year deal, but only played in two seasons due to suffering a torn Achilles tendon and missing the 2024 season.

The pass rusher registered 9.5 sacks and 57 total tackles in his first season with Indianapolis, both career-highs. Ebukam logged 11.5 sacks and 90 tackles in his tenure under Shane Steichen.

The defenders’ 9.5 sacks in a season are tied for the most in the last five seasons.

Samson Ebukam will now head to Atlanta and join new head coach Kevin Stefanski, who have been making plenty of additions to the team.

Samson Ebukam isn’t the only member of the Indianapolis Colts 2025 defensive front to leave the team, as EDGE rusher Kwity Paye signed a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders (Paye logged 30.5 sacks in his tenure with the Colts).

To help combat the losses to the D-line, Indy signed two D-linemen to the squad. The Colts brought in defensive linemen Arden Key and Michael Clemons near the start of free agency.

Key was last with the Tennessee Titans, recording 16.5 sacks in his time with the team. Clemons logged 8.5 sacks and 119 total tackles in the first four seasons of his career.

With still free agency in its early days and the draft to go, Indianapolis can bolster its defensive front 7, as general manager Chris Ballard said at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

The Indianapolis Colts have lost two members of the defensive back room, primarily the secondary position.

Safeties Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II have both left the team after playing the first four seasons of their career in Indy. The former will go to sign with the Washington Commanders. and the latter will sign with Super Bowl Champions, the Seattle Seahawks.

Cross has started every game the last two seasons for the Colts, recording 4 interceptions, 10 pass deflections, and over 250 tackles.

After starting 25 games in his first two seasons, Thomas has only started once since then. The former seventh-rounder recorded 6 interceptions and 10 pass deflections in his career. Thomas recorded 21 tackles in the 2025 season.

Cam Bynum, who was signed in the 2025 free agency on a four-year, $60 million deal, is the only starting safety on the Colts roster.

The Indianapolis Colts have around $50 million in cap space to go out and sign a quality starter next to Bynum.
