Owen Heinecke 'full steam ahead' with NFL after Ou's Pro Day but still weighing legal action…

NORMAN — Owen Heinecke has been toeing the line between chasing his NFL dreams and maintaining hope about a possible return to Oklahoma for a sixth season of eligibility.

During OU's Pro Day on Thursday, however, the 6-foot-1, 229-pound linebacker had a singular focus on pursuing an NFL path.

"Right now, my mindset is I'm full steam ahead on the NFL, and that's the message that's been communicated to (NFL teams)," Heinecke said.

Heinecke was one of 14 former Sooners who participated in the program's annual Pro Day, in some capacity, in front of scouts and personnel from all 32 NFL teams. Heinecke went through positional work on the field of the Everest Indoor Training Center, and the only testing drill he completed was the 20-yard shuttle, posting a time of 4.25 seconds that would have ranked third among linebackers at this year's NFL Combine.

For the rest of the testing, Heinecke stood on his performance in Indianapolis a few weeks back, when he ran a 4.62 40-yard dash, posted a 7.15 in the three-cone drill, recorded a vertical jump of 34.5 inches and a broad jump of 9 feet, 11 inches.
