The Steelers have lost another one of their own as wide receiver [Calvin Austin III](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2032215339686080560?s=20) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New York Giants on Thursday afternoon.
Austin was selected 138th overall in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Steelers. After missing his rookie year due to a foot injury, Austin provided several years of big-play capability for the Steelers. The numbers were never eye-popping, but Austin made several big plays for Pittsburgh last season, including what ended up being the game-winning and division-clinching touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in week 18.
Austin’s new deal with the Giants has only 100k in guaranteed money. The deal is worth 1.5 million dollars up to 4.5 million with incentives, a sign that Austin will have to fight to earn his spot in the receiving room in New York.
The speedy receiver also provided valuable reps as a punt returner in Pittsburgh. It is interesting that the Steelers chose not to retain Austin, considering his versatility and use on special teams. Despite the addition of Michael Pittman Jr. on Monday, it is still likely the Steelers will invest in their receiver room early in the draft. It will be interesting to see how Austin is used in New York, and how the Steelers plan to replace him.
