Green Bay Packers: Emanuel Wilson signs with NFC rival in 2026 NFL free agency

One of the first moves that Green Bay Packers made in NFL free agency was bring back running back Chris Brooks on a two-year deal worth $4.85 million. That being said, he is expected to remain in his role as Green Bay’s third running back and special teams player as opposed to being their backup behind Josh Jacobs.

That role, of course, was previously held by Emanuel Wilson, who spent three seasons with the Packers after they signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023. However, Green Bay made the decision not to tender Wilson a contract following 2025, and he, in turn, chose not to re-sign with them on a lesser deal.

He did, though, just sign with the reigning Super Bowl champions.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Wilson has signed a one-year $2.1 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks:

The #Seahawks are signing former #Packers RB Emanuel Wilson to a 1-year deal worth up to $2.1M, source said. Wilson flashed last season with a 107-yard game and another for 82 yards.

Wilson will help provide depth in a running back room that saw Kenneth Walker, the Super Bowl MVP, depart in free agency himself for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite the low salary and short contract, one would assume that Wilson will get every opportunity to earn the starting running back job in Seattle. Over the last two seasons as Green Bay’s backup, he rushed for 998 yards in limited opportunities while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He also added seven rushing touchdowns.

Should Wilson find success as a starter in Seattle, it would be an ironic reverse of how Ahman Green experienced a great run with the Packers following his trade to Green Bay from the Seahawks back in 2000.
