Seahawks bringing back safety D’Anthony Bell

The Seahawks are bringing back safety D’Anthony Bell, a source confirmed to The Seattle Times.

Bell played 14 games for the Seahawks with two starts last season before being waived on Dec. 31 when the team needed to do some roster maneuvering and was claimed by the Carolina Panthers.

Bell did not see action for the Panthers and was waived on Jan. 14.

Bell is the second safety the Seahawks added Thursday along with signing free agent Rodney Thomas II.

The two will help the Seahawks rebuild their depth at safety after losing free agent Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears. The Seahawks return Julian Love and Ty Okada as the expected starters at safety and earlier this week re-signed free agent A.J. Finley.

Bell had 15 tackles and half a sack with the Seahawks last season and also blocked a punt in a Week 3 game against the Saints that helped spark the Seahawks’ 44-13 win.

Bell officially got starts in Weeks 2 and 4 against the Steelers and Saints when Seattle opened the game in three-safety sets when he was filling in for the injured Nick Emmanwori.
