Raiders find their fullback for Klint Kubiak’s offense

New Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak finally has his fullback.

Connor Heyward agreed to terms on a two-year deal that could max out at $5.5 million with $2 million guaranteed.

Heyward has played in all 68 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers since he was drafted in the sixth round out of Michigan State in 2022.

He is the son of former NFL player Craig “Ironhead” Heyward and the brother of All-Pro defensive tackle Cameron Heyward of the Steelers.

Heyward is a college teammate of Jalen Nailor, who signed with the Raiders as a free agent Thursday.

The Raiders did not have a fullback on the roster last season, but Kubiak typically employs one in his system.

He grinned when asked if he wanted to add one this offseason.

“It is important,” he said of the position as it relates to his system. “You have to find the right guy, and if you can find that guy, then he becomes a big part of your offense.”

Heyward has lined up at fullback and tight end while also being featured as the Steelers’ quarterback on short-yardage sneaks.

The Georgia native is also a standout on special teams.
