The Minnesota Vikings made a huge free agency splash by signing Kyler Murray, and it appears the NFL quarterback has a history with the team.
Minnesota has gone through an up-and-down spell with quarterbacks in recent seasons. However, Kevin o’Connell and Co. hope that Murray’s career turns around after his struggles with the Arizona Cardinals.

Many NFL fans are surprised by Murray’s connection to his new team though. This comes after the veteran NFL signal caller revealed that he grew up supporting the Vikings before becoming a professional.

During his introductory press conference Thursday, Murray stated that Minnesota’s 2009 postseason loss left him devastated. NFL legend Brett Favre and the Vikings made a deep playoff run that season before losing to the New Orleans Saints.

“Genuine fandom,” Murray said. “Ran deep, Vikings gear through and through. A lot of purple in my household.”

Murray and former Michigan star J.J. McCarthy are poised to compete for the starting role next season. However, given the struggles that McCarthy has gone through during his young career it’s likely that Murray will receive every chance to become a starter once again.
