The Golden State Warriors have been linked to Michael Porter Jr. in recent NBA trade rumors, and could send Jonathan Kuminga out to get him.
Breakout star Michael Porter is having the best season of his career with the Brooklyn Nets, but he continues to find controversy off the court. Last offseason featured Porter making some bold comments on a podcast tour until the Nets asked him to stop making controversial comments. However, an ex-girlfriend has put his name into the news by bringing up his past.
Actress Madison Pettis said the following about dating Porter in her younger years:
“I mean, my ex is now in the NBA. When we dated, he was in high school and college. I broke up with him before he was in the league because he was a psychopath. I do think a lot of athletes are not great partners, but I wouldn’t, like, rule it out because I do love what they do. I would have respect for them and love to talk to them about, you know, their passion.”
It is public knowledge that Pettis and Porter had a relationship in their younger years before both became celebrities in different worlds. Pettis is a top actress, but she clearly has no love for Porter today. The term “psychopath” was used to describe how she feels about him these days.
Why Michael Porter Is Considered Controversial
Porter has become a controversial name in the NBA due to his off-court comments about social matters. Many felt Porter had sexist and problematic thoughts when giving his perspective on social issues. A recent interview with right wing political personality Emily Austin featured Porter praising polarizing public figure Andrew Tate to bring that back into the news.
Nets General Manager Sean Marks asked Porter to slow down on the interviews since his offseason comments created controversial headlines. Brooklyn has run into past issues with Kyrie Irving’s vaccine stance and allegations of antisemitism harming their season with off court issues.
Porter showed this week that he’s not afraid of speaking his mind and will still take the occasional interview offer. The Nets getting a tremendous season from Porter likely allows him to get away with more, including the controversial interview that made headlines this week.
Why Madison Pettis Called Him A Psycho
The term used by Pettis to criticize Porter was a strong one that confirms the two had issues to cause the end of their relationship. Pettis has since appeared in some noteworthy movies and television shows to build her acting career once entering adulthood.
Porter has made some wild statements about his expectations from a partner and how he views the female gender to create more controversy. Pettis is likely speaking about both the sour ending to their relationship and some of the quotes she’s seen from him over the past year.
It appears that Porter enjoys being a lightning rod for controversial statements and likes being known for non-basketball thoughts. Brooklyn’s limited roster sees limited talents like Nic Claxton and Noah Clowney as their next best players. Porter plays a massive role in the team’s ability to rebuild, and the off-court stories will continue to annoy the Nets.
