Liverpool’s midfield is heading for a major shakeup.
Last week it was revealed that Ryan Gravenberch signed a new contract until the end of the 2031/32 season. The mammoth extension is set to see the Dutchman earn £87m in salary - excluding bonuses - which equates to around £277k per week.
Quite how much money will be left over for the Premier League champions’ other midfielders due for a renewal remains to be seen.
Alexis Mac Allister’s father has stated that no negotiations currently exist for a new deal while Dominik Szoboszlai is reported to be seeking up to £300k per week for a new contract.
We can only speculate that the new deals will cost Richard Hughes a fortune - with Macca currently on around £150k per week and Szoboszlai reportedly on £120k.
It means Curtis Jones could be squeezed out - and he too is due a new contract.
No new deal for Jones?
Jones - under contract until 2027 - is not one of the club’s top earners having signed his last renewal back in 2022 when he was a squad player.
And with these new midfielder deals on the horizon it could mean game over for Jones at Anfield. The 25-year-old could be available for transfer this summer - with the Merseysiders not keen on losing him for nothing in 2027.
And Inter could be tempted back to the table - with Cristian Chivu’s side making an attempt to sign Jones in January.
The England midfield didn’t ultimately move to the Serie A side - with reports suggesting Arne Slot wasn’t keen on weakening the squad. But that could all change this summer if FSG decide to cash in.
