Cobie Durant will leave the LA Rams after four seasons

One of the key starters of the 2025 Los Angeles Rams team has a new place to call home.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that cornerback Cobie Durant will join the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal. The contract value has yet to be revealed.

Durant had three interceptions and seven pass breakups for the Rams last year.

A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Durant has found himself as a key starter for Chris Shula’s defense the last two seasons.

The cornerback has played in 32 games, starting 29, for the Rams, recording 4 interceptions and 15 pass deflections. He has logged 7 INTs and 26 pass deflections in his career so far.

The recent Rams playoff run had Durant playing some of his best football. The former South Carolina State defender logged 3 interceptions and 7 pass deflections, both the most in the postseason.

Cobie Durant had a 67.4 coverage grade in the 2025 season from Pro Football Focus, ranking him 38th out of 114 qualifying cornerbacks.

Additions to Rams Secondary

Trent McDuffie

The cornerback spot has been a place of worry for the Los Angeles Rams, with the team making big moves this offseason to bolster the position.

LA acquired Kansas City Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie in a blockbuster trade, giving up the 29th overall pick of this year’s draft, a 2026 fifth-round pick, a 2026 sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-round pick for the two-time All-Pro.

The Rams wasted no time securing the defender to a long-term deal, as McDuffie signed a four-year, $124 million deal less than a week after being traded to the team. McDuffie becomes the highest-paid player ever at his respective position.

LA went to poach another member of the Chiefs’ secondary, signing Jaylen Watson to a three-year, $51 million deal. Watson, also a member of the 2022 NFL Draft class, will reunite with his former teammate and look to win a third Super Bowl together, but now on a different team.

With familiarity with each other, the new cornerback duo should have no issues getting used to Chris Shula’s defensive scheme.

The Rams shouldn’t be too affected by the departure of Cobie Durant with the newest additions to the defensive back room.

Secondary Turns into Strength For Rams

When people think of the a member of the Los Angeles Rams defense in the 2025 season, it will likely be a member of the defensive line.

Jared Verse and Byron Young were both Pro Bowlers, almost recording 20 combined sacks. Kobie Turner had another great season, taking down opposing quarterbacks for 7 or more times for the third straight season.

A weakness for the Rams was the secondary group, with the most notable name of the bunch being Quentin Lake.

Now, after the recent acquisitions and likely more to go, the defensive back room is seen as one of the team’s biggest strengths on either side of the ball.

With Matthew Stafford returning for another year, LA went all out in hopes of winning a second Super Bowl in the last five seasons.
