Bosun Lawal and Divin Mubama could be called up for international duty next week despite still being in the Stoke City treatment room.

Versatile Lawal, aged 22, is wanted for Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final against Czechia on March 26 as he nears his return from a hamstring injury.

Striker Mubama, aged 21, could be summoned for England under-21s Euros qualifiers against Andorra and Moldova as he nears a comeback from ankle ligament damage sustained in January.

Mark Robins has reservations, particularly about Lawal being pushed too quickly when he might benefit from extra time spent training at Stoke.

But he is hoping to have some players back in training today as he prepares for a Championship home match against Watford tomorrow (3pm).

He said: “I’m hopeful that I’ll get some, maybe a small number, back today for training. The others are going to be, I think, after the international break.

“In the case of Divin and Bosun Lawal, in my opinion they are close but not quite close enough, Divin possibly a little bit closer than Bosun. We’ve got an international period coming up and the likelihood is they will both get called up. That isn’t ideal for us, certainly in Bosun’s case. We’ve got to wait and see what happens there.

“I say he’s close but he’s still not fit and Bosun is a big, big man. He’s going to need some work to help to stay fit for the rest of the season. From my point of view I’d like him to be here and work through the international break. We’ll see.”

Keeper Gavin Bazunu suffered a set-back in training late last week just as he was set to come back available following a thigh injury.
