CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
THE DAILY BLOVIATION
Acquiring new players drives more web traffic to the Orange and Brown Report than practically anything but a coaching change. Our page views and visits soar during free agency and the draft, as Browns fans gather to watch and discuss what's next for their team.
Notable player exits aren't nearly as big a deal for our traffic, but we shouldn't let a number of recent roster moves go without a mention. Yesterday, the Browns took official steps to part ways with several veterans who have had solid careers with the Browns. The Browns continue to reshape their roster in free agency, and today's news hits a full range of emotions — from the bittersweet to the mundane, with a touch of chaos from around the league for good measure.
Let's start with the big one: Jack Conklin is gone. After six seasons in Cleveland, the Browns are releasing the veteran offensive tackle, officially closing the book on an injury-plagued tenure that showed flashes of brilliance but ultimately ended in frustration. The veteran missed nearly half of 101 possible starts with the team, but it feels like more than that. Conklin was one of the better free agent signings in franchise history when he arrived in 2020, but recurring knee injuries derailed what should have been a dominant run as the bookend right tackle opposite Jedrick Wills. Well, maybe not all that, but best of luck to Jack — he gave Cleveland everything he had when healthy. Jed signed with the Bears last week. I assume he'll bring along his PlayStation.

The Conklin news makes even more sense now in the context of this week's offensive line makeover. While the right and left tackle sports are still a work in progress, the team did trade for OT Tytus Howard, and there are items in Rumor Central about the other side of the line.
We also have confirmed roster moves in the releases of Wyatt Teller and David Njoku, both with June 1st designations, which means their cap hits will be spread across this year and next. Teller was one of the best guards in post-expansion history, but Father Time and finances eventually took their toll. As for Njoku — it's a bittersweet farewell to a player who had his moments but never quite became the dominant tight end everyone hoped he could be.
Meanwhile, the Joel Bitonio drama continues to be appointment television. There's significant discussion about his cap hit, potential retirement, and whether there's any path back. The Browns appear to be in the middle of a full offensive line overhaul — they've brought in two Jenkins, released Teller, and cut Conklin, so there's a lot of rebuilding happening at once.
And, of course, the Browns officially bought back Corey Bojorquez yesterday to punt the ball iif all these offensive line machinations fail to provide an unstoppable offense.
Rounding out the day, the Browns are also re-signing cornerback and special teams ace Tre Avery, who brings depth at CB and is a valued contributor on coverage units. Nice, low-risk move to keep continuity.
And if you need some league-wide drama to go with your morning coffee, the Maxx Crosby/Ravens saga has a new chapter. NFL executives are piling on Baltimore, with multiple execs telling media that the Ravens are known for "f--king with people" in trade negotiations. The fallout from backing out of that Raiders deal is apparently resonating league-wide. Not a great look for a franchise that fancies itself as one of the gold standards of the AFC.
Finally, if one senses excitement from Pete Smith's corner of the site, it's just because Makai Lemon has scheduled a visit to Cleveland to meet with the Browns.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
