£119m duo return to Newcastle United starting XI v Chelsea as major Gordon & Joelinton calls…

Newcastle United latest news: Eddie Howe’s predicted XI v Chelsea as major Anthony Gordon and Joelinton decisions made ahead of Premier League clash.

Eddie Howe has some big decisions to make this weekend ahead of naming his starting XI to take on Chelsea.

Newcastle United head to London for a clash with the Blues sandwiched between a two-legged Round of 16 tie against Barcelona. The Magpies were unfortunate not to win on Tuesday night and will head to Spain on Wednesday with hope that they can secure a favourable result and progress to the final-eight.

But will Howe have one eye on that game when he names his team this weekend? Or will he go full strength once again in a bid to bolster his side’s hopes of a decent Premier League finish?

Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that Howe could name for his side’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Do you agree with our picks? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.

Newcastle United predicted XI v Chelsea

Aaron Ramsdale

Ramsdale has been given the nod in recent weeks and after going within a kick of keeping a clean sheet against Barcelona, he will very likely be given the chance to start against Chelsea.

Kieran Trippier

Tino Livramento may be edging his way closer to a starting spot, but Saturday’s game may come too soon for the former Blues defender. Trippier may once again be asked to start.

Malick Thiaw

Thiaw will almost certainly start in London on Saturday evening.

Sven Botman

Botman may return to the starting XI to give Dan Burn a rest. Botman and Thiaw have enjoyed a decent partnership this season and know they will have to be on form to stop Joao Pedro.

Lewis Hall

Hall reminded everyone of his immense talent on Tuesday night. He now has the opportunity to show off his skills at Stamford Bridge in front of his former supporters.

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey is getting better and better in a Newcastle United shirt and will hope to continue that form in the capital this weekend.

Nick Woltemade

Woltemade was rested against Barcelona, but Howe may turn to the German international at Stamford Bridge. He netted a brace against the Blues in the reverse fixture.

Sandro Tonali

Tonali has been one of Howe’s most used players in recent weeks and whilst he may be due a rest, that is not likely to come until after the international break. He will be required to be on top form on Saturday against a strong Chelsea midfield.

Jacob Murphy

Murphy provided the assist for Barnes’ goal on Tuesday night, reminding everyone of the quality he possesses when he gets the chance to cross from wide. Anthony Elanga will likely be needed at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night, giving Murphy a chance to start at Stamford Bridge.

Yoane Wissa

Anthony Gordon may not be risked from the off in the capital due to the pivotal role he could have to play against Barcelona. That could give Wissa an opportunity to start in the Premier League once again.

Joe Willock

Joelinton was brilliant in midweek, but the Brazilian, along with Harvey Barnes, may be rested this weekend with Willock potentially taking over on the left wing.
