Cameron Heyward posts interesting statement.

The Pittsburgh Steelers extended Cam Heyward but opted not to re-sign his brother, Connor.

Cam has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh after being selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Although Cameron was under contract for 2026, the Steelers have given him a one-year extension, bringing the total value to a two-year deal worth $32.25 million with $16.25 million fully guaranteed.

Although the Steelers re-signed the elder Heyward on March 12, it was revealed that his brother, Connor, signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, with $5 million guaranteed.

Following the deal, Cam took to Instagram and praised his brother but claimed he was ‘never appreciated enough for the player’ he is in Pittsburgh, which caught many fans by surprise.

“So proud of this dude Connor Heyward your ass off,” Heyward wrote. “So excited for this next chapter in YOUR story. You were never appreciated enough for the player you are. Can’t wait to watch you capitalize on a great situation. I’ve enjoyed this very cool chapter where I got to say I played with my brother! I love you, I’m proud of you. And now you go and make YOUR LEGACY!”

It’s an interesting statement, as Cam believes his brother is a much better football player than he gets credit for.

Connor is a fullback/tight end who rushed for 43 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while adding 21 receiving yards, but he’s a key part of the run blocking game.

Connor Hewyard Thanks Cam For Message

After Cam’s lengthy post on Instagram, Connor responded to it and thanked his brother.

Connor not only thanked Cam, but he also praised his elder brother and admitted he wishes he could’ve played together their whole careers.

“Love you bro. HOF. Wish we could’ve finished together. Blessed to have played with you,” Connor wrote in the comments.

Cam likely only has a couple of years left in his NFL career, and Connor has spent the last four years playing with his brother. But he has since signed with the Raiders and will be playing on a different team than his brother for the first time in his pro career.

The Steelers selected Connor in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In his NFL career, he’s rushed for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns, while he’s added 379 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.

Steelers Players Praise Cam Heyward

Heyward has been a leader for the Steelers for years, and players have plenty of respect for him.

During the season, Heyward made his way downfield for the tackle on a Derrick Henry 41-yard rush. After the game, Steelers defensive tackle Keeanu Benton praised Heyward for how he plays the game.

“That just shows his resiliency and his want-to and will to come out here and work at his age,” Benton said. “I think he’s still got some more in the tank. He’s a heck of a player.

“That’s why you see me (chasing players downfield) now. Seeing him, even in practice, it starts in practice with him turning and running. You see it on film. The young guys see it on film. You just see people start to change.”

Heyward recorded 78 tackles and 3.5 sacks last season.
