Chelsea defender wants a new contract at Stamford Bridge after Reece James deal - journalist

Reece James’ new deal at Chelsea could kick off a string of potential announcements at Stamford Bridge, with a player already showing a willingness to extend his stay.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are both lining up for new deals at Chelsea, but it was originally thought that any dealings would wait until the summer.

But for now, at least, Reece James’ future is secured, as arguably the most important cog for Liam Rosenior as his leader and captain.

Former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker even believes that Reece James is a truly complete player.

However, he’s not the only good player at Chelsea and naturally, if one player is rewarded, then others start to go in search of more money and security.

Levi Colwill wants a new deal at Chelsea

Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the Chelsea contract situation after Reece James’ new deal.

Nothing close yet but a willingness from all parties to explore a new deal.

This comes after Marc Cucurella was rewarded with improved terms last year despite no announcement.

Does Levi Colwill deserve a new deal?

Levi Colwill’s case for a new contract is complicated by a 2025/26 season entirely lost to a devastating ACL injury sustained last August. His current deal runs until 2029.

From a talent perspective, Colwill remains Chelsea’s most gifted natural centre-back; his left-footed distribution and high ceiling made him a cornerstone of the 2025 Club World Cup-winning side.

However, with Financial Fair Play restrictions forcing the club to postpone talks with senior stars like Enzo Fernandez, a new deal for a player who hasn’t played a minute this term seems weird.

Ultimately, Colwill deserves the security of a long-term future, but the club is right to prioritise his full physical recovery before committing to a massive salary increase.
