Celtics' Ron Harper Jr. Is Playing Himself Into A Standard Contract At Season’s End

Ron Harper Jr. has to have impressed the Boston Celtics coaching staff and front office lately with his seamless integration into the rotation.

The versatile wing delivered a career-high 22-point performance (8-of-11 shooting, 6-of-9 from three) in a March 10 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, and he was effective against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, too, further strengthening his case for a full-time roster spot.

Expect the Celtics to convert his two-way deal to a standard contract at the very end of the regular season. It figures to be a multi-year deal that will set him up to remain with the team beyond this season.pic.twitter.com/U9Gsx9Bhqf

Boston has leaned on Harper during injury absences, and he has responded with efficient scoring, rebounding and defensive versatility. His recent output against high-level competition has accelerated conversations about locking him into a longer-term agreement.

At 25 years old, Harper still has a ton of basketball in front of him. If Boston doesn't make Harper a part of their long-term plan, another NBA team certainly will.
