The Dallas Cowboys are signing cornerback Cobie Durant to a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million in incentives, according to multiple reports and confirmed to the Star-Telegram. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report.
Durant, 28, provides much-needed reliability to the cornerback room and provides Dallas with a starting option on the outside. With DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr. making their way back to full health this offseason, Durant’s presence will provide consistency in the secondary. Over the last two seasons, Durant has started 29 games.
The South Carolina State product has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft. In 61 games, he’s totaled seven interceptions, 141 tackles and 26 pass deflections. His ball production gives new defensive coordinator Christian Parker a scheme-fit defensive back that can help create turnovers for a defense that was tied for the second-least interceptions in 2025.
In the 2025 regular season with the Rams, Durant hauled in three interceptions before picking off three more in the playoffs, including two in the NFC Divisional Round overtime win against the Chicago Bears. At 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, Durant was graded as the 39th best cornerback out of 114 across the league in 2025, according to Pro Football Focus. He was credited for giving up 41 receptions for 483 yards and five touchdowns to assignments last season.
The cornerback room behind Durant, Revel and Bland includes Caelen Carson, Reddy Steward and Trikweze Bridges. The addition to the room prevents Dallas from being forced to take a cornerback with a high draft pick, although the door is certainly still open to add a young premium pick to the mix.
The addition is the eighth that the Cowboys have made since the opening of the legal tampering period on Monday, joining defensive end Rashan Gary, safety Jalen Thompson, safety P.J. Locke, quarterback Sam Howell, offensive lineman Matt Hennessy, defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia and defensive end Tyrus Wheat.
