Why Stephen Curry isn't playing tonight for Warriors vs. Timberwolves

The Golden State Warriors' chances of escaping the NBA Play-In Tournament race is looking bleak. Coach Steve Kerr and Co. have lost three-straight games so far. It is becoming apparent that they need their roster to be at full health with only 17 games left in the regular season. However, those expectations might have been doused with cold water before they face the Anthony Edwards-led Minnesota Timberwolves because Stephen Curry will miss another night.

Why isn't Stephen Curry playing tonight?

The Warriors have ruled out Curry for the next 10 days, per Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of ESPN.

This means that his five-game absence will include this faceoff against the Timberwolves. Notably, his right knee has been aching throughout the season which has previously led him to already missing 15 consecutive games. Doctors for the Warriors have described the injury as 'runner's knee.'

Despite not being able to play against Edwards and Timberwolves, he is on an intense road to recovery. Curry has been having intensified court workouts ever since he was ruled out in order to maintain his readiness in playing for Coach Kerr's squad. Aside from missing tonight's game, he will also not be available against the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics. and Detroit Pistons. With the exception of the Wizards, these other teams are great barometers of the Warriors' ability to make a deep postseason run.

Curry last played games back in January. He played heavy minutes against the Utah Jazz, Pistons, and Timberwolves.

25 minutes in 131-124 loss to the Pistons on January 30: 23 points, 40% from three, two assists

28 minutes in 140-124 win over the Jazz on January 28: 27 points, 40% from three, two assists

28 minutes in 111-85 win over the Timberwolves on January 25: 26 points, 30% from three, seven assists

There is a clear need for Curry to be back soon if the Warriors plan on making it to the NBA Playoffs. If they lose more consecutive games, Coach Kerr and Co. will sink to 10th in the Western Conference standings.
