Seahawks named fit for 49ers' 400-yard RB to replace Kenneth Walker

This offseason, the Seattle Seahawks saw a few key players depart in free agency. Riq Woolen, Coby Bryant, and Boye Mafe all left for new teams. But the biggest departure was Kenneth Walker, the Super Bowl MVP, leaving for the Kansas City Chiefs.

With a massive hole at the running back position, especially with Zach Charbonnet coming off a torn ACL in the playoffs, the Seahawks need to add running back help.

Amid such a clear need, Bill Barnwell of ESPN named the Seahawks as one of the best landing spots for one of the top remaining free agent running backs, in former San Francisco 49ers trade pickup Brian Robinson Jr.

Seahawks are a top fit for RB Brian Robinson Jr.

"Where he could fit: Seattle Seahawks," Barnwell writes. "The Seahawks need a replacement for Kenneth Walker III who can shoulder a meaningful workload, given that Zach Charbonnet is expected to miss the start of the 2026 season after tearing an ACL in the playoffs."

With Walker now in Kansas City and Charbonnet beginning the season banged up, the Seahawks need to find a replacement running back to begin the year.

They've already added former Green Bay Packers running back Emmanuel Wilson, but he's not been a full-time starter in his career, nor has he been given consistent heavy usage in his career over multiple games.

Robinson, a soon-to-be 27-year-old running back who's played for the Washington Commanders and the 49ers, would be a great fill-in for Walker.

He's a bigger back at 6-foot-1, 225 pounds, and is coming off a lackluster season with the 49ers, but for good reason. As a backup to Christian McCaffrey, Robinson didn't get many chances all year.

He had 92 rushing attempts, ending the year with 400 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He isn't much of a receiving back, catching just eight passes for 25 yards this past season.

But if the Seahawks were to sign him, he could take on such a role if needed. Back in 2023, Robinson, for the Commanders, caught 36 passes for 468 yards and four touchdowns to go with his 733 rushing yards and five TDs on 178 attempts.

In 2024, his last season as a majority starter, Robinson ran for 799 yards and eight touchdowns on 187 attempts for an NFC Championship-bound Commanders team.

He ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns on 36 attempts while catching four of five targets for 22 yards.

Robinson wouldn't be a terrible option for the Seahawks to pair with Wilson until Charbonnet comes back healthy. He's a running back capable of a workhorse role, and at worst, would be a nice complementary running back with Wilson or Charbonnet.
